For centuries, it was the country&#8217;s political, cultural, and religious center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Early History<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Krak\u00f3w was founded over <strong>1,000 years ago<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>According to legend, it was built after Prince Krak defeated the <strong>Wawel Dragon<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By the 10th century, it had become an important trading and political center.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Capital of Poland<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In <strong>1038<\/strong>, Krak\u00f3w became the capital of Poland.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Polish kings ruled from <strong>Wawel Castle<\/strong> and were crowned in <strong>Wawel Cathedral<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The city flourished as a center of art, learning, and commerce.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Jagiellonian Period<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The 14th and 15th centuries were Krak\u00f3w&#8217;s <strong>Golden Age<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>1364<\/strong>, King Casimir III the Great founded the <strong>Jagiellonian University<\/strong>, one of the oldest universities in Europe.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students and scholars from many countries came to study there.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Later Centuries<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In <strong>1596<\/strong>, the Polish capital moved from Krak\u00f3w to Warsaw.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Although it was no longer the capital, Krak\u00f3w remained an important cultural and religious city.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">World War II<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Germany occupied Krak\u00f3w in <strong>1939<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The city&#8217;s Jewish population suffered greatly during the Holocaust.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many residents were forced into the <strong>Krak\u00f3w Ghetto<\/strong>, and thousands were sent to concentration camps such as Auschwitz.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Modern Krak\u00f3w<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>After the war, Krak\u00f3w became one of Poland&#8217;s leading cultural and tourist destinations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>1978<\/strong>, its historic center was named one of the first <strong>UNESCO World Heritage Sites<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Today, Krak\u00f3w is famous for its beautiful Old Town, Wawel Castle, museums, festivals, and universities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Krak\u00f3w remains a symbol of Poland&#8217;s rich history and heritage, attracting millions of visitors from around the world every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Krak\u00f3w is one of Poland&#8217;s oldest and most important cities.
